The traffic was unusually heavy past the toll. Must be some accident ahead, PK thought, and all these fellas slowing down to catch a glimpse of the number plates. Typical Malaysian kaypoh behaviour, lah. He tapped his fingers on the wheel, anticipating a slight delay returning to the office this afternoon.
At some point, the cars in front would be trying to change lanes to avoid the vehicles involved. But no, the traffic continued as heavy. And then he saw why. Up ahead, not straight ahead but on the other side of the road, stood a big red vehicle. Fire engine? What was going on, he wondered as he inched his car forward, craning his neck right as he did. A long black truck came in view. Wah, must be some accident, man. What a story to tell his colleagues at work. And later his 94-year-old father at home, too. But wait, must get the numbers. He picked up his handphone to tap in the digits and lurched forward, the same time as he heard an unwelcome thud.
PK sighed and got ready to assess damage and do the necessary. Hopefully, it would be a friendly resolution. And later, two stories to tell at the office and at home. One of them his own.
