While waiting for SPM 1993 results, I took up an assistant job at a clinic to kill time. I had a fair share of interesting clinic stories. This by far remains very much vivid in my mind, apart from the bloodied face of a drunken truck driver who kept insisting he was not drunk when he fell and cut his face in the toilet.
A super ah lian in her late teens came to register at the nurse counter. You wouldn’t have missed her even if she stood some 200 feet away with her heavy makeup and bright neon colored clothes.
“How old are you?”
“17”
“Married or single?”
“Aiyoh.. I so young mah! 17! Of course I am not married yet lah! Use your brain lah!”
“OK…..”
During consultation with the doctor, she was told to go to the toilet and come back to the room with her urine sample. The test kit showed two visible lines. Ah Lian was pregnant three months. She looked as if her world has fallen apart. I could swear that her bright pink colored lipstick turned purple. Doctor told her to take care of herself and be responsible for her baby.
Lost in thoughts, she came out from the consultation room and dragged her “platformed” feet to the dispensary to pay for consultation.
“Folic acid. Take one tablet a day. RM45”
She paid without thinking and collected the folic tablets.
Suddenly, my head grew two horns and my tail bone sprouted a long tail. I couldn’t resist it anymore.
“You know who the daddy is?” I asked with a sly smirk on my face.
She gave me a piercing stone cold stare and left immediately.
Revenge is delightfully sweet.
