The Solitary Monk

Kuala Lumpur // 19 Apr 2010 // by Ethan Cheng
Moonlight shone through the barred windows illuminating the bare room, the candlelight on the table flickering to any slight breeze that blowed across the confined area. The room consisted only of a large wooden table and an old rickety chair.Documents, books and papers were scattered around the forlorn and dusty area.A figure was sitting on the chair slouching over the table and was vigorously writing on a paper ignoring the fact that the dawn was approaching. The figure stood up and sighed loudly, the sound echoed eerily through the lonely corridors of the abbey. Not a soul stirred as this part of the abbey is unhabitated apart from occasional visitors. He stretched himself and inspect the calluses on his hand, it was much better now.He pick up the quill and dipped swiftly into the ink and begun to write again."In few days it will be completed, after all this years of confining myself in this room will bear fruit of my labour. My masterpiece will be complete, my Codex Gigas will see the light of the day" he chuckled to himself
