The curtains are still unchanged. The late night news is on air. The newscaster announces the government’s decision to intervene if things get out of hand – many things do at this time of the year.
Despite prayers and wishes, it is not a good time for careless people; not good to harbour high hopes and to be selfless.
The berbuka meal is slowly, slowly disintegrating. Clothes are strewn on the bedroom’s cold parquet floor. They had fled to avert a disaster; a bigger one impending. The iron is still switched on, waiting.
If someone gave in, tomorrow would have been a happy day.
