I am proud to be a Johannian. School shaped me to be the person I am today. The teachers then were strict but dedicated and caring. I remember being on the verge of a caning because of a birthday ragging incident but they were merciful! We excelled at studies as well as sports. SJI was a force in football, hockey and other games. Many school champions went on to make our country proud. Memories of training sessions in the afternoon remain vivid. The friendly but sometimes fiercely competitive rivalry between different 'houses' which were settled at the Stadium Negara on Sports Day, the school canteen where we quenched our thirst on 10 sen cups of ultra sweet-iced cordial drinks. Heck, I still remeber the cendol seller who plied his trade for years outside of the school! SJI remains a special place for me. Still does. Fide Et Labore!
